Is that true that Cornell sometimes offer Guaranteed transfer options to waitlistees? In case of ILR? I applied as ILR and waitlisted, so I am really curious on it.

possibly…you can always apply to ILR for a sophomore/junior transfer.

Yes…I know of a couple of students who were waitlisted and ended up being offered a GT when it was clear that they would not be accepted.

Do you know how many would be and when that would be roughly? How’s the case with ILR? And how are they going to contact to you?

I don’t know the details and my friends in this situation were not ILR students. If you’re going to hear anything, I imagine it would be June/July because that is when the “summer melt” occurs and you get the most waitlist activity (if there is any).

Cornell will go to their WL as early as the first week of May. I would keep close contact with Cornell and let them know that you are very interested in taking a WL spot. If it doesn’t happen then ask if you could be offered a GT.

I think people are applying to more schools now, I wouldn’t be surprised if yield should go down for most schools, so there is a possibility that Cornell would need to take more people off their WL. On the other hand, if Cornell anticipated this trend and over admitted, then they may not need to go to their WL. The year before my daughter’s year they didn’t take any, and they took 100+ off WL my daughter’s year.

do you think continuous contact would benefit me? I am concerned if that might annoy them. lol And if I repeat my interest over and over again, is that going to be worth? and what would be the great means of contact? E-mail or letter?

wntjd168 - I was waitlisted last year (CALS AEM) and was given GT around July 1st. I followed up with them almost every 10 or so days. They were polite and provided as much information as they could every time I called. I know there was another person who was also given GT off the waitlist around the same time. So it may not be super common but it is definitely possible. By the way, Oldfort was kind enough to suggest ways to increase my chances and I basically followed her suggestions. Two weeks ago, almost a year after I was waitlisted, I finally received my acceptance letter!! Good luck.

SouthernAlps91 - congratulations!! You will love Cornell. Glad it worked for you.

Calling once a week or so is fine, and try to be polite.

thanks for your reply and congrats on your GT letter! But how do they notify you?

Some of Cornell’s schools tell you with the waitlist letter that if you do not get in from the waitlist you will have a GT.

does COrnell give GT option to the rejected(who was deferred from ED and then rejected)??

I was just curious…

Don’t believe it works that way …
