Does Cornell live up to its hype in the college books?

Those were the two colleges I was choosing between for my ED application...I picked Cornell ;)

me too :) !

Same here! I finally realized that Cornell had all the good aspects of Dartmouth (intense school spirit, great party scene, devoted alumni, etc) but it also didn't feel as isolated and it has way more resources, included an undergrad business program. I also liked UVA and Amherst a lot but Cornell has always been my first choice after I saw the campus. With applications up 16% Cornell is sure to jump in the rankings and could pass every Ivy except HYP in the next few years. And with CAS having a acceptance rate for this year predicted at 18% that makes it as selective as any elite university in the country.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! acceptance rate going downnnnnn =( =( =(!!! i'm not gonna get into college ahhhhhhhh

lmao but acceptance rate at harvard and places is only like 10 percent, 18 percents a lot compared to those elite unis

I know HYPS are like 10% or 12% but 18% is comparable to the rest of the ivies so the CAS will be just as selective as brown, dartmouth, columbia etc.

Why is everyone so worried about stupid acceptance rates going down--->ranking going up? They are so negligible and the fact that Yale's apps didn't increase at all and Cornell's went WAYYY up should show you that simple numbers really don't mean that much. Then again, maybe I'm just a little bitter because I truly love Cornell and I would whether it was ranked 10 or 500 so it doesn't seem fair to me that people who applied only because it was another school to round out their list or whatever might get in and go there since it's now selective enough for them.

sry, nicky (yay penn!), didn't really get what you're trying to say, but
i don't care about rankings either... i just care about whether or not i'll get in...

I understand how the numbers are important to everyone hoping to be accepted, and you all have a reason to express concern. In terms of worrying about the college rankings.. those people are nothing but stat-wh0res. :)

princeton is 8 percent, harvard about the same this year, yale i think around 10 or 11 so 18 is really neat

AFA! hey. Andrea! don't worry about it. Deferral was like the best thing to ever happen to me...the rose (or, in Penn's case, red and blue) colored glasses came off and I completely reevaluated the reasons I seemed to love it so much...they just didn't hold up! I think you'll be truly happy wherever you end up, and you don't need Penn to be the REAL Super Asian!

(i wonder what happened to him. community college, maybe?)

--blublu!

ETA: Jesus, Princeton is down to freakin EIGHT percent?! that's just...that's just...okay. All of us are so incredibly special and any of us would have so much to bring to any college campus worth its salt. It's just so ridiculous that with the growing population, esp. of seniors who need the big name school to succeed, and the schools of course can't expand...so many people end up left out that really deserve a reward for all their hard work, and GIVE UP! It kills me that they might think that a rejection/deferral is like...a sign that they will never be good enough? Please don't become suicidal or depressed. Look at the odds! Twenty five people apply...TWO get in! Doesn't anyone see how INSANE that is? How can you be upset if you don't get in! Cornell is just so much better. Without the minuscule acceptance rate, there's not as much room for competition on campus, right?

I think we've all got a little stat-whoreness in us ;) lol
