Just got deferred from Cornell's ED round. Although this might be daft, what I'm wondering now is if they actually reject. I've heard of many acceptances and deferrals, but no rejections (thus far). So... does anyone know?

im pretty sure i saw a few rejections

Yes. I got rejected

Rejected with a 1600 m+cr and a legacy… Still in a state of shock.

rugbyfield - Even though Cornell is a lottery school, your stats were good enough that as a legacy you should have gotten a deferral. You are going to have to go through the RD round. I know you are still in a state of shock, but I would have someone go through your common app and essays to see if there is any glaring problem before you submit them. I would also have your GC read your LORs to make sure there wasn’t anything negative. I have to admit that it is very strange that you were out right rejected.

There are some schools with ED IIs, you may want to look into that.

I got accepted with a 1420, no connections, average grades, but really good essay and fantastic EC’s (I converted our entire town to biofuel).

Yes they do, rejected ED to CAS. ACT: 32, 33 superscore. GPA: 3.54 UW, 3.98 W. Decent ECs, mostly CS related, competitions such as National Science Bowl, volunteer work at food bank, some entrepreneurship etc.

American schools can only take so internationals.

I’m Chinese, in my class there’re 3 EDs to Cornell. 2 got deferred, 1 got rejected…

But, there’re also 2 EDs to Duke and both of them got accepted without extremely high scores (one 2180, one 2200). I just can’t understand what’s happening. Guess they really have great essays and ECs.

huamai111, are you sure there’re only 6-10 accecpted in mainland China by Cornell during this ED period?
