I founded the Persian club at my high school just for the sake of embracing my culture. Since the creation of my club thought, I've have multiple people tell me how good this will look on my college application. Is this true? I don't know much about applying to college seeing as I will be the first child in my family to go. Can anybody explain why?

Creating a club to impress adcoms is a very common activity in selective college admissions. Most adcoms will easily recognize that junior who decided to start the XYZ Club to pad his resume.

That being said, if you were truly interested in establishing the Persian Club to “embrace your culture”, kudos to you At least you’re doing something out of interest, and not out of your love for getting into college.

I think starting a club can look fake, or it can look great, depending on how much work you put into it and how you present it. If you just have weekly meetings where you eat and talk (a lot of clubs at my school do this…) that’s not impressive. But if you plan major events to share your culture with the rest of the school, that’s showing leadership and initiative. And if your club is really meaningful to you, you can write a great essay about it.

Of course. Very few students create clubs that actually work. I created a club that donates toys to St. Jude. This being because I want to be an oncologist so it made a good essay along with my lab work and my summer programs involving biology. Good luck with your club.
