I know that P.E classes aren’t counted when colleges calculate GPA for incoming high school students, but what about dance class? It’s a fine arts class.
If it’s graded pass/fail, I would say no.
If it’s graded A/B/C/D/F or similar, then it can factor into GPA like other arts and art-related classes (e.g. music history) can.
Once again it depends on the college. The UCs have an art requirement so a dance grade would fulfill that. It’s probably not going to be considered an academic course so some schools will not consider it.
I was considering on taking it again next year which will be my third year in the program (Dance Performance 3).
Will it be a better idea to just take an academic class like Environmental Science? I’m taking AP Physics next year but I wouldn’t mind taking a regular level science course if it will help with admissions.
I would have 5 years of science classes instead 4 if I do.
If you love dance and want to continue in dance, take dance. AP Physics is enough science.
As long as the rest of your schedule is strong, then four years of science should be fine. You should probably talk to your guidance counselor to get his/her advice. IMO, if you love dance, take it. In terms of GPA many colleges recalculate it according to their own parameters (ex. academic classes only etc.) so dance might not count.
Well I really need to raise my GPA so taking a class that won’t count is pointless. For next year which will be my senior year, if I chose to stay at my HS all day will include 4 APs, a foreign language, and (free choice). I don’t know what to choose for that last slot.
I have a 3.56 and this will be my last shot to raise it. I’ll do whatever looks the best for admission chances. Adding up on another science course would look the most rigorous would it not, since Dance class is a really easy “A”.
I have to ask if your cum is a 3.56 what makes you think you’ll be highly successful with 4 APs. I second the recommendation to keep taking dancing if you love it. Colleges want students who have some passion.
