Does Dartmouth Check Second Semester Grades for Regular Decision?

If an applicant is on the bubble?

If the grades are just quarter grades and the school sends out only semester grades ?(basically grades earned after the midyear reports)

Just wondering if anyone knows their policy. Id hate to cruise on B's and then have it used against me.

when does your quarter/ trimester end. Because for most schools what you say would be chronologically impossible considering they start making decisions in mid march. also Im pretty positive dartmouth does not request any additional secondary school material. If its that questionable they'll just reject you, one applicant to any school is not worth wasting time or losing sleep over for any addmissions officers, although that decision may alter the applicants life completely.

Dartmouth does require mid year grades I think by feb. 15

*Applicants for Regular Decision and applicants who have applied for Early Decision but have been deferred to Regular Decision are expected to have a Mid-Year Report submitted by their secondary school on their behalf. The mid-year report includes an update of the applicant’s secondary school coursework and grades, usually from the applicant’s 1st semester or trimester.

*

with the exception of candidates whom the school deems as auto-admits or auto deny (for whatever reason), most of the applications go on to committee and are discussed.

Usually they are looking for the most complete application in order to make a decision. So if your first semester (1/2 of the year is over and you have already been graded, those are the grades that your GC is expected to send). If they feel that they do not have enough information regarding your grades they will contact your GC directly to have him/her fax over your most recent grades.

HC asked about SECOND semester grades (of senior year)...not SEVENTH semester grades : )

They will read applications without midyear grades if they don't come in time. And Dartmouth does not read by committee.

to clarify,
would Dartmouth ever call a GC to check on grades AFTER 7th semester?

Like mid-quarter grades and the like

Doubtful. I would think that they have too many applications to check-up on your mid-semester grades. Unless it's all Fs I can't see that it would make a difference. And if you are accepted and drop to Fs they'll just take back the admit.

Yes, they check your second semester grades because your admission is contigent on your successfully completing high school. So if you have amjor slide or get all Fs they will rescind the admission.

But you don't have to have straight As to keep your seat at Dartmouth. Just don't slack off so much that you're getting all Cs and below and you'll be fine.

I understand about rescinding admissions.

but would they ever check mid 2nd semester (like now) while MAKING their decisions?

yes this is still bothering me. Say i got 9/10 when I was accepted to Dartmouth and now it dropped to 8.3/10, will they rescind my admission

could a dartmouth student check this for me, may be you could ask the admission office about this. Thanx a bunch, im very worried

Don't worry about it. And you could ask the admissions office yourself if you want to hear it straight from their mouth.

I asked. They only rescinded a handful of admissions last summer. and it was because the grades dropped to Ds and Fs not just a couple of GPA points. please don't become worried over nothing.

thanks everyone, you guys reassured me. THANX A BUNCH.

another question, have any of you received any request from dartmouth of any form(letters, emails), asking for your mid year grade, especially those admitted ED, because I haven't received anything so far. Does that mean I dont have to send in anything? PLease confirm me on this

You should've given your counselor the mid-year report form. You don't have to do anything...the counselor fills it out and sends it in.

My school's counselors send the seventh semester reports automatically, but they do not use the standard mid-year report form.

They only require end of year grades for ED kids. They sure don't have time to worry about those admitted ED. They're done with them! That was the point.

that should end my questions. THANKS A LOT GUYS
