Does deffered basically mean rejected?

2forcollege

did your D write the letter herself or was it kind of like a counselor/teacher letter? also, did she just upload it onto the website or did she send it through mail?

thanks!

My son was deferred last year on the last possible day, meaning he found out AFTER Christmas because his letter was sent out by snail mail on or around December 24. He was accepted on April 1. His friend was accepted on April 17. My advice is to explore your other options and develop a plan B that you are happy with (or maybe a new plan A), and then set this on the back burner for a few months. Speaking from experience, the continuous checking can cause unnecessary frustration and animosity toward the university.

I got in after being deferred last year. My 7th semester gpa didn’t go up either, it was the same as my previous cumulative gpa.

what do you mean by accepted quickly? they didnt wait untill the regular decision? were you notified by mail right after the new grade release?
i was just deferred from Duke, and i think it was because of my D+ in English AP. i had straight A’s, 4.6 weighted GPA, 3.985 unweighted, and Top 4%.
but my stubborn senior AP English teacher gave out 4 assignments, which he graded HARSHLY, and based our quarter grades on it…

123abc456,

My D wrote the letter herself, expressing sincerely why she wanted to attend, along with an update of activities and awards she had received since submitting her application. She also noted her improved academic performance (straight A’s) 7th semester (for an OOS, her stats were borderline when she applied…so those grades hellped).

Good luck! I really do believe admissions does take the time to read letters from deferred applicants and takes into account anything you’ve accomplished since your application.

jkaplan: history around these parts has proven that a deferral from UMich means nothing in the scheme of the rest of your list;

For example:

Kids from our HS with very similar stats to yours, OOS, all ap’s/honors, top 10%, etc, have been deferred from Umich…accepted at Vandy, Emory, Cornell, and Wash U…in RD…

hang in there; you will be fine…

svtcobra, that is very very interesting. I’ve personally been aiming for a 4,0 this semester but I cant quite make it, so your words might give me a little hope
