Today, I got my first detention in high school (I’m a sophomore, and it’s a public detention). I was walking in the hallway with my friend, going to get something from my teacher, when an assistant principal came up to me and dress-coded me. I’m freaking out so much and I almost cried at the spot… I mean, I’ve heard that provate detentions don’t matter, but then does that mean that public detentions matter? I’m usually not the type to get in trouble–for ANYTHING. Do you all think this event will hinder me from getting into a good college? I was actually scheduled to go on a field trip today, so I was marked “excused absent: school activity” on all my classes, but I decided to come to school anyway (even though that’s really not relevant). Thanks for reading, and I would be so grateful for any feedback!
No. You do realize that if colleges exclude everybody that ever got a detention, there would be few students going to college.
Colleges are interested in disciplinary actions resulting from hazing, academic dishonesty, selling drugs, etc. Dress code violations? No, they just do not care.
Your detention will not likely show up anywhere in your school’s report or your transcript. As @skieurope said, can you imagine how empty colleges would be if detentions kept students from attending?
@skieurope How would they view suspension for drug use, alcohol use/drunk at school event, or fighting? This is just out of curiosity because it has happened numerous times at my school
even if it’s a public detention?
