I am trying to get a scholarship doing Air Force ROTC so will that affect my chances of getting accepted into a college?
Thanks!

I would say it’s a nice bonus to your profile. I mean, it doesn’t directly increase your chances, but it does look nice and improve your profile, so. Not sure why UTPG says no.

Saying you want to join ROTC is like saying you want to join an academic team or the student branch of a professional organization. It may be of some use to you in the area of paying for school but does more or less nothing for getting you into the school. The only exception to this imo is if you already have the scholarship and a school would have to give you no financial aid.

Thank you for your replies.

It depends. To a school with a strong ROTC program and a lot of interested cadets/mids, probably not. Otherwise, to a college, it’s like saying “Hey! I can pay full tuition!” Right? I’m just assuming. I also realize that’s not necessarily true for AFROTC either.

Anyway, if a particular ROTC program really wants you (it is a good idea to be in good contact with the PMS), then they could have a pull on admissions, it depends on the school. One of the schools I listed on my ROTC scholarship told me they would talk to admissions and give me a pull if I listed them as my first choice :)

Some ROTC Professors of Military Science (the person in charge of the Unit, usually a LT. Colonel), have excellent relations with Admissions and can ask for a favorable treatment to bubble candidates, while some do not at all. Depends on the Unit.

Interesting, thank you.
