Does dropping a major leave a mark on your transcript?

Just out of curiosity... I never thought of this until a friend brought it up. Assuming what he said was true, does that mean your transcript will have an 'uncompleted major' disclaimer on it?

Want to confirm before I try out to double major (then might drop one if it gets too demanding).

I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think majors are posted on official transcripts…just courses, grades, GPA and degrees. I doubt a dropped major would appear…dropped courses after the deadline, yes.

No, there is no uncompleted major. What you have is a series of miscellaneous notations right at the end of your transcript that look like this:

01-18-11 FIELD OF STUDY CHANGED FROM
CHEMSTRY CHEMICAL BIOLOGY.
08-25-11 FIELD OF STUDY CHANGED FROM
CHEMSTRY CHEMISTRY.
01-17-12 FIELD OF STUDY CHANGED FROM
CONCURNT DOUBLE.
01-17-12 FIELD OF STUDY CHANGED FROM
L & S LINGUISTICS.

This is mine. So if someone were to scrutinize that section, they might be able to figure out that you dropped a double major, but it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to solidly reconstruct your major trajectory. You can guess at mine.

In any case, the first page of your transcript and your diploma will only have your final major choice(s) and nothing else.

Thank you so much you two :)!
