Does Duke give out a gift to the freshman class?

I remember hearing that Duke freshman a few years ago were all given iPods, and I remember the Dean at the accepted students thing saying we will get a "gift." I wasn't sure if it was the Blue Book or something else. Does anyone know if we are getting something special?

They sure don’t give iPods anymore =)
usually it is something small, nothing really big and expensive.

Plus if you are in FOCUS, you get a T-Shirt.

Crosses fingers hoping for an iPod Touch They should wait till September to give us the iPods so they can give us 3rd gens. I´ve heard about the iPod Touch thing, but I think they only gave them to students who took a specific class or something like that.

Let me count the freebies Duke has ALREADY given me/us:

-Class T-shirt (the one with all the languages)
-Very high quality cinch bag (says Duke, Class of 2013 on the front)
-Pulitzer Prize-winning book: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

 • At least 2 bumper stickers (all of which are now on my car lol)

anndd…once we get there we definitely get the free “Freshmen Facebook” with all our pictures in it, at the very least. So, I’m pretty damn thankful no matter what they give us :)

(Plus, I already have an iTouch anyway lol)

Duke gives out a lot of freebies, but nothing very expensive. You can, however, expect at least 3 shirts a semester if you know where to look :)

We got really sweet Pewter keychains that said “Class of 2009.” A nice classy keychain for the keyring…

But yeah free t-shirts are everywhere. And then by the time you graduate you’ll realize how many random free things you’ve accumulated. Various picnic blankets, sunglasses, a “twilly,” keychains, various glassware, sweatpants, hoodies…the list goes on and on…

“Various picnic blankets”

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA LOL :D

LOL I actually visited during Finals Week (forced to, because of academic and extracurricular conflicts with BDD…actually ended up being really cool, because I got to see Duke without all the smoke and mirrors and happy faces of Admitted Students Days…just the real nitty-gritty…ANYWAY), and the guy I roomed with snuck me into Midnight Breakfast! Free T-**** FTW!

So now, I have a Midnight Breakfast 2009 shirt that I will definitely be wearing during Midnight Breakfast 2010, just to confuse people: “Wait…you’re a freshman…” LOL

Haha no really! There’s the Joe College Day blanket…the Senior Gift Campaign blanket…although I think the various also applies to sunglasses too.

But really! Those blankets come in handy on nice days in the gardens!

“But really! Those blankets come in handy on nice days in the gardens!”

haha or during the tenting in K-ville!

But hey I love the Sarah P. Duke garden, great place to be on a warm sunny day

I thought you had to swipe your DukeCard to get a free T-shirt.

You swipe the card to pay for the food, but if someone pays for you, then you can just walk in and grab a shirt.

“Duke gives out a lot of freebies”

As a parent, I wouldn’t exactly call it “free” …

Of course not, but since we don’t fork over money when we get them, we tend to forget that annoying little detail.

Besides, thinking that you already paid for them makes you extra disappointed when you can’t wade through the 50 billion people thronged around the lonely campus council member throwing shirts randomly in the air.

what bag? I never remember receiving a cinch bag with class of 2013.

I remember I got one of those, it fell apart apart a few months. Useful while it lasted though

hmmm… I’ll probably call someone about that.

@ vasudevank: Everyone who attended Blue Devil Days received the Duke Class of 2013 cinch bag.

^o thats why
