or if not a finance major? if so is it comparable to any of the other top programs that the school is usually matched with like upenn
i knwo the economics program is supposedly pretty good

Yes it has a business school--Fuqua School of Business.

Duke doesn't have a finance major in the undergraduate program, but many people who are considering business school attain a certificate of Markets & Management Studies.

how prestigious is such program/certificate

I am not too familiar with the prestige of the certificate. It is a certificate of course--certificate is somewhat synonymous with minor I believe.

That being said, you will, of course, still have to attain a major. Do not worry about placement into a business school if you are considering apply to Duke undergrad. Duke students gain admittance to excellent business schools.

Here is a link for the certificate: http://www.markets.duke.edu/program/about.html

Witzness, have a look at Duke's pre-business page.

hmm i was interested in applying to duke, but im looking more for a strong UNDER graduate business major or school ( such as Wharton or Stern) Duke's Economics program does gage my interests though

I think it's pretty hard to compare Duke economics + Markets & Management with Wharton or Stern u-grad. Wharton & Stern are phenominal programs w/ second to none training and professionalism (Sternies wearing business clothes to class!) that is sort of lacking at Duke. Yeah-- Dukies will be very well prepared for careers in all aspects of finance and business, and so many go onto becoming i-bankers upon graduatioon, but, definitely continue to look at Wharton and Stern. (But at the same time remember that a Wharton grad and a Duke econ grad, with slightly different training, can both become analysts when college is all done!)
