Okay, so I'm overly worried that Duke doesn't want me.

I turned in my application way before 12/10 and spent a lot of time on my Duke Supplementary. I get a call from an interviewer a little after Jan. 1st and I had to call her back to set up an interview (she said she'd call me after Jan 4th but never did). I also had to find out about the Duke VIP page by myself and register myself.

My friend, on the other hand, applied to Duke last minute after the 12/10 deadline for an interview. She got an interviewer call her a few days after she turned in her app. and got an interview scheduled before me. She also got on email about the Duke VIP page and that's how she found out.

Can anyone explain what's going on here?

*Granted, my friend's dad got contacted to interview me but he declined because he knew me. So Duke probably had to get another interviewer to contact me. So that could explain the late call, but not THAT late.

stuff happen, don’t read too much into it. Duke doesn’t have time to sit around and pretend to be the CIA. When they want to let you know something, they’ll just come out and say it.

The interview appointments don’t indicate anything; don’t worry. I don’t think they even begin to evaluate your applications before they start sending out names to alumni interviewers. Your alum might have just been a little more busy over the holidays.

Since I doubt they’ve even fully completely all of their preliminary looks at applications I don’t see why they would prefer her over you. Although, she is the daughter of an alumnus so that could mean something.

Either way, don’t sweat it. Interviews aren’t even available in my town, and when I asked if I could drive to a city like Orlando where I knew they would be available I was told not to worry about it and just to send in an optional letter of recommendation from someone if I felt like it.

I found out about the VIP page and application checklist by myself also. Don’t stress yourself worrying about petty details!

Dude, chill. There is no need for you to freak out over this. There is no need for you to make two identical topics about this. Like people have probably said before, Duke does not evaluate your app before giving you an interview. What happened is a fluke and you are at the mercy of luck, busy interviewers, and random circumstances. Stop worrying about something that is out of your hands at this point. Focus on more important things like enjoying your senior year.
