Does Duke have a system of recalculating High School GPA for undergraduate admissions? If so, does anyone know exactly how it works? Thanks!
I don’t believe Duke recalculates your GPA in the traditional sense. However, they look at the grades you received in your CORE courses (exclude PE, art, etc.) and balance that against the rigor of your curriculum and if you’ve challenged yourself. It basically goes, A=4.0, A- = 3.7, B+=3.3, B= 3.0, B- = 2.7, etc.
Duke does not even provide the percentage of admits in the certain GPA “buckets” as part of the Common Data Set: http://ir.provost.duke.edu/facts/cds/Duke%20CDS_2013-2014.pdf
They really try to evaluate the GPA in the relevant CONTEXT.
