Anyone get one in the midwest? I totally don’t expect one, but I’m wondering if our ever-so-lovely precipitation lately could have gotten in the way of the mail?

Yeah, I’m from the midwest and got a letter. I would definitely agree that our snow is ever-so-lovely, but I think it’s been snowing just as much in other parts of the country.

Anybody from NY or the northeast get one?

I got one last year, but it was for a URM recruitment thing. I was a URM with 2300, 3.9+ GPA unweighted, High SAT scores, various ec’s. Many had lower stats though, so don’t be intimidated… I think they mostly send it to Roberson Scholars/other scholarship recipients or to URMS for the URM weekend (because Duke needs more diversity)

Can some of the people who got likelies this year please post some basic stats (SAT, UW GPA, W GPA, etc.)? Thanks!

My friend received what I believe was a likely last year and advanced in the AB Scholaship. I imagine they’re somewhat related processes, since both identify the top applicants.

Also, are there any likelies who applied to Pratt?

Hi Deliciouscake-
My D is from NY/NYC area; She got one two days ago

“a URM recruitment thing.”

It’s called BSAI.

PS Congrats Blue Devils, for the basketball win over UNC!

IT may be used for URM recruitment.
But it is not just that for sure.
My D is not in any way a URM

stats (got likely 2 days ago)

SAT I: 2360 single-sitting (760M)
SAT II: 780 Bio-E, 790 Lit, 800 Math II-C
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.95; no ranking, top 10%
Self-studied 6 AP’s & taking 3 ap classes this year

Extracurriculars: founded literacy nonprofit [+extensive accompanying awards, board positions, press, and research (though i didn’t send an abstract)], model UN president, considerable independent journalism, lot of local community stuff (founded youth commission, active in democratic party, library board of directors), choir (a couple of national, all-state, etc.), indian dance, sporadic tutoring

EC short answer: literacy volunteering - boring
General Essay: about being a former speller - mildly original
Why Duke Essay: long/specific but not particularly creative
Teacher Recommendations: both very good
Counselor Rec: new one this year so probably perfunctory
Interview: none (submitted after interview deadline)

NJ, large public high school
Indian Female/ No Hooks

Why you think you were accepted: honestly shocked that i got one (i was vaguely aware duke sends likelies but never anticipated one myself, and definitely not this month) and i’m positive it’s because of my nonprofit/community work. still holding out for robertson notifications and looking forward to Duke Up Close in april!

Of the kids who received a “likely” letter, how many of you had your mid year reports sent out? I’m just wondering and thinking that perhaps the reason some kids may get a likely letter later is because some high schools take forever to get the mid year reports out, like ours and we don’t send out first quarter grades. I wonder if having one or both of those helps to expedite the likely letter.

Any thoughts?

I received a likely letter and my midyear report was not sent in before (FAFSA was not either).

I am an ORM with no national awards aside from NMF. Also, I have not taken the most rigorous course load and sent in my application before the interview deadline. My recs and essays, however, were very, very good. I think these more subjective aspects are the tipping factor in determining likely letters.

Any applicant from Canada who applied for financial aid receive a likely?

^ Dude you’d be lucky as hell being an international asking for FA to get in, let along receiving a likely.

are likely letters for duke, and other schools for that matter, rolling or do they only go out in a batch on a certain date? did they already go through all 30, 000 applications already?

look at my profile for stats. I’m in CA btw
my mid year report was not sent in as my second semester just ended. plus my counselor isn’t the fastest.

My midyear report was not in either.
