Does each of HYPSM accept a certain number of students from each country?

I heard that a certain number of students from my country, Japan, got accepted by Harvard every year. Does it mean that Harvard chooses a certain number of Japanese international students separately from other nation's international students every year? If it were true, the admission for Japanese international students would be much less competitive than that for Chinese international students.

You are damn right when you said that admission for Chinese students is hell lot more competitive than that for a Japanese students. But it isn’t due to some invisible quota system employed by the colleges such as HYPSM. If one shows the worth, HYPSM won’t reject the student simply because the quota is full…

I think ~5 people from my country were accepted by Harvard in my year. At least two of us ended up at Yale. The following year, something ridiculous like 15 people from my country were accepted at Harvard…

There’s no guarantee that any minimum number of students will be accepted from a particular country. (If there aren’t any outstanding applicants, why accept anyone at all?)

15 Aussies to Harvard? Were they all from private schools and international olympians?

I don’t think there’s a specific quota, but it’s probably harder if too many people from your country apply. ESPECIALLY if all of them are competitive applicants. But b@r!um is right, if none are qualified, then none will get in.

Yes the more applicantions from the same country, the harder it will be to gain entrance. Sorry China/India - a tough road for you.
