Does ED help?

This year CMU stopped considering demonstrated interest in their admissions process. I applied ED to CMU (which I think is considered demonstrated interest?) and was wondering if that still improves my chances or not.

I heard a rumor that CMU is moving away from demonstrated interest. Anyways, I had a friend had great stats but straight up rejected by CMU ED and a lot of people I know at CMU didn’t ED, so I don’t really know. Is CMU your dream school? ED is binding, and imo, it is better to have other options.

Yes, CMU is tied with MIT as my favorite schools. I applied to ED thinking this would increase my chances, not knowing that ED is also considered “demonstrated interest”. :frowning:

ED is binding. It has much higher acceptance rate. Usually at least double the rate in RD round. so it does help a lot.

Yes, They do move away from demonstrated interest. It is not rumor. The demonstrated interests include campus visit, communication etc. .

.

Isn’t that only for previous years though? They just got rid of demonstrated interest this year so I don’t know how that will affect the ED acceptance rate.

ED does not have much to do with the so called demonstrated interest.

With ED, you give up your freedom to pick, the school compensate it with more lenient treatment of your application. Much easier to get in.

for CMU, the acceptance rates for ED vs RD are very similar. ED is only slightly higher… At many other schools it does double people’s chances though
