Does EOP help my consideration for acceptance?

So I just applied to 8 CSU’s and 2 UC’s for fall 2019. My transfer GPA is very low as of right now: 2.62. Although Im doing very well in my classes and ifI get the grades I want they highest GPA I can get after this semester is 2.9. Once Spring 2019 is over I’ll have an ADT for business admin as well. I’ve already made a post about my likelihood of getting into these schools. I would just like to know if EOP will help my consideration and likeness of getting into EOP. Are the way i answer EOP questions just as crucial as writing personal insight essays for UC’s?

Financial history:
-first generation college student. No one including my siblings have obtained a college degree

  • parents have made above 70k
  • mom was unemployed 2017 so household income was below 15k
  • mom is now employed: above 80k
  • even though household income is high we still support my grandmother
  • older brother and his family still lives with us, we live together as a family to help each other.
  • have had to help pay for rent and other household expenses/ pay for my own college tuition throughout cc.

Schools I applied to:
CSUF
CSULB
SDSU
CSUEB
CSUN
SFSU
SJSU
Cal Poly Obispo
UCR
UCSC

Also our income has not been consistent throughout the years… Some years are drastically lower than others. I don’t know how to better explain it.

Yes, EOP helps but does not guarantee an acceptance.

**Should students interested in EOP submit applications for admission to several CSU campuses?
Yes. Students should submit an application to the campus of their first choice. Applicants who are denied admission may request that their application materials be transferred to the second-choice campus.

If a student is denied admission through EOP, what happens next?
A student denied admission through EOP who 1) is academically eligible for regular admission as determined by the CSU eligibility index, is referred to the Admissions Office for regular admission, or 2) is not eligible for regular admission, may be referred to a community college to improve his or her skills, or the student may request that admission materials be forwarded to the EOP Office at the second-choice campus.**

Gumpymom: so EOP only goes to one CSU at a time? Or when you apply to cal state apply it goes to all of the schools?

You can apply to multiple campuses that accept the EOP applications. On the EOP application I am assuming you select a 1st choice and 2nd choice campus. I do not have access to the application, so I cannot tell you for sure. Have you talked with a transfer advisor at your CC?

**Is EOP able to accommodate all students who do not meet regular admission criteria?
No. Current CSU admission policy limits the number of students admitted as exceptions to a small percentage of the total number of undergraduate students admitted. EOP receives at least four times as many applicants as it is able to admit by exception.

How does EOP determine who will be accepted into the program?Students are evaluated based upon motivation, past academic performance, need for services and potential for success in college. A committee reviews and evaluates complete applications. An applicant’s complete file consists of a CSU application and EOP supplementary forms:
Applicant Information
Autobiography
Recommendations (2 required)
Additional requirements
This committee makes a recommendation to the EOP Director for acceptance or denial.**

Thank you for your help again @ gumpymom !

I am suppose to talk to my counselor tomorrow so I’ll ask them then!

I’m currently an EOP student and the application will help the university judge you holistically. One of the people forgot to turn in the recommendations for San Diego State two years ago, but they kept messaging me since they were intrigued by my application. You should do the EOP program for SO MANY reasons. Even if you are apathetic about the perks, you get a free scholarship (grant technically) on the side each year. Who wouldn’t want free money?

If you think you have a poor shot at the sweet six (Fullerton, LB, Fresno, SJ, SD, and SLO), where it’s terribly hard to get into if you’re not in their county area, you might be mistaken later on. Apply to schools you want to go to but be realistic!

elefish92: Thank you! That helped me feel a bit better, I’m trying to optimistic. We’ll see where I end up (hopefully with EOP) I’m crossing my fingers!
