I was just wondering whether or not everyone who applies RD is guaraunteed an interview and if not, is there some sort of special selection process for those that do get an interview?

an interview means you made the first cut, only about 45-50% of RD applicants get interviews and move on to the next round, consider yourself very lucky and good luck, you are halfway there, and if you didn't get an interview, it almost certainly means you have no chance, unless you are an athlete, sorry if that is the case

psquared... are you sure about that?

that's just really not true

i am very sure about that, i don't know the official stats, but probably 90% or more of the people accepted had interviews, and 10% that didn't had something else really special going for them, if you don' t get an interview, or are contacted later in the process for one, it isn't looking good

Where did you get this info?

brown information session, last summer

Hum, they never told me that. Anyways, I sort of already had my interview.

congratulations then, halfway there

I definitely do not think that is true at all. I have been to an info session, read the website about interviews, and read numerous posts here, and I simply do not believe that.

opinions will be opinions, btw did you not get an interview yet and that is why you are angry?

No one is angry... they just do not think you are right.

it's definitely not true...psquared is either confused or lying

the whole "first cut" thing seems as if it would be a good way to do the interviews, but did anyone think about the fact that applications were due less than 2 weeks ago? i know that people turn in applications early, but i'm relatively sure that right now brown is just processing applications. i don't know when they would have had enough time to cut out half of the applicant pool already.

I don't think it's true, either. I sent my Form 1 in October, so I got scheduled for an interview (Dec 27) even before I had submitted my Form 2 (Dec 30). Actually, I wrote my essays for Brown the day after the interview. I pretty much wrote what I said in the interview because I got some good essay ideas then. So it's not like they decided I was a good candidate just based on, what? my name and my address? However, Brown did receive one letter of recommendation (the science one) and my SAT scores in late October/ early November, so maybe this was it, though I doubt it. Though really, I would like to believe that getting the interview was a good sign.

Whether or not you get an interview depends on the availability of alumni interviewers in your area. Though what I wonder is if there are too many applicants in an area for the alumni interviewers to interview all, whom do they choose? the definite admits, the maybes, or the ones who submitted their applications in first?

Also, 90% interview rate among successful applicants doesn't mean anything because there could also have been a 90% interview rate among rejected applicants. What would be meaningful would be a 90% acceptance rate among those interviewed. That would be CRAZY!

I am most certainly not angry because I don't have an interview. I already had one...two months ago.

and she got in ED!!

booyaka lol

...sorry, rabo...i had to ;)

psquared...dont go around spreading rumors, or don't listen to that whack admissions officer...i strongly, strongly doubt they make cuts for interviews...why would they? it's not like interviews waste time...and i'm pretty sure that Brown tries to get everyone to interview...besides, it's stilll kind of early to tell right now so most people will be getting their interview notices soon

i havent received my interview yet...however, i know my friend's(accepted ED Brown)mom is going to be my interviewer, but she hasnt gotten around to calling me yet...w/e, not worrying about interview as much as my sucky SAT scores

Don't kill the messenger, psquared is simply give his two cents on this from what he's heard, an outright lie or not. None of us are admissions officers so we really can't say anything for sure.
