so far from the posts i've read, it seems like everyone who applied later than dec1 is getting deferred. is this what michigan usually does? defer everyone until they have a better idea of how many spots they have?

From what I've heard, the trick to getting into Michigan -- for qualified students -- is applying early.

My d applied 12/31 & was acccepted by the end of January.

it also depends on your admission counselor as well...lazy? quick? fast? slow? doesnt care? has too many other students to care about? caaaaall your admission counselor and question them! i called mine and had my decision two weeks later...

how do u know who ur admissions counselor is?

i applied early and got deferred so i don't think it's true if you apply early you get in right away. it's much harder to get in doing early response.

It depends on what you call "early". My D applied EA right at the deadline on Oct 31st (in fact, one of her recs shows it wasn't received until Nov 7th) and she was deferred in December. We are in-state and she has friends from school with lesser stats who applied very early....like August/September.....and were accepted.

yaa...how do we find out who our admissions counselor is..and how do we get notified of the decision..mail or online?....i heard that an acceptence is shown online but a rejection or deferral is sent in mail...can anyone clarify?

yeah can someone please clarify? i'm completely clueless as to how michigan does its notification business.

I applied EA and was deferred in December. My wolverine access never said that I was deferred. I just got a letter. I received an email of acceptance last week. I'm pretty sure that rejection and deferral letters are sent in the mail.

i applied on feb 1st and got in on feb 11th so i don't think you HAVE to apply early
