I have started my commonapp a few weeks ago and I have received emails and/or letters from almost all the schools I have added into my college list.
I was wondering if everyone gets these messages or is it linked to my SAT scores which I have sent to these schools ?

It is certainly linked to the SAT scores. You will also get e-mails from other schools as well. Offers of “special” applications may come your way as well. Most of them are fluff but some are worth something. My son received several offers to waive the application fee if he applied by a certain date (not ED or EA). It saved us a little bit of money.

I actually apologized to my mail carrier the other day! My daughter gets so much mail (and e-mail) from colleges that it all won’t fit in the mailbox! Sometimes we even get 3 mailings from the same college (all different - not just merely duplicates!)

I think tuition could go down if they didn’t spend all this money on creating, printing and mailing these sometimes huge glossy booklets and brochures!

It feels like every single day my d gets something from Hamilton and American. She’s never even visited Hamilton or expressed interest. We visited American and it wasn’t a good fit.

I´m with you mom22. I think it´s a crime that they spend so much money on these expensive catalogs, that don´t even give an in depth picture of the school. Nowadays, there is no longer a need to show visuals this way. They could save money and do something for the environment by stopping these mailings. If they want to send something to get a kid´s attention…why not just a letter with a link to their website?

Last year our mail box and D’s e-mail box were packed daily. The e-mails only stopped over the summer.

D was in the same boat last year, my thinking at the time was so this is what all that tuition goes to, recruitment mail Sometimes we also got 2 or 3 mailers from the same college that went on for months…e-mails are better but then the e-mail was full of stuff. Luckily, D got an e-mail address just for SAT/ACT and college information. That helped.

That was smart. I wish we had thought of that. :)

That is SO smart – I’m definitely going to do that for my younger child when her college time rolls around!

I STILL get e-mails from colleges I was interested a year or two ago. At one point the Art Institute called me so much that I had to tell them to stop calling me! These places really don’t leave you alone, and yes, I agree that getting an e-mail just for SAT/ACT is a good idea. Just make sure that it’s a respectable e-mail name and not something stupid.

One day I got two postcards AND a priority application in the same day from one school. I had never expressed interest, nor am I considering applying. I can’t believe they kill so many trees.
