Dear

I write this morning to thank you personally for your distinguished application to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Over the last several weeks, as members of the admissions committee have reviewed your application, we have become more and more impressed by your many achievements. While official offers of admission will not be mailed until late January, we believe you are an outstanding candidate -- the kind of student who will contribute to our community and make full and creative use of the opportunities we offer.

It goes on to talk about opportunities such as the Carolina Entrepreneurial Initiative. Then it says "we hope you will keep these opportunities in mind. We also hope you will join us for at least one of the speical events we will be hosting in March and April for students of exceptional promise...Carolina is rightfully regarded as an extraordinarily welcoming place -- a scholarly community where students and professors genuinely like and respect each other -- and we will gladly do our part to give you the welcome you rightfully deserve."

I feel a bit better about my chances of getting in now, but I'm still trying not to get my hopes up too much. What do you guys think?

Well compared to many of the people on this site, my numbers seem average:

not too much leadership/awards just a couple

WOW! i am so excited.
to all the people who said OOS is one of the hardest things to get into, you're obviously wrong, because i dont have such great leaderships (maybe 1 or 2) and only like 5 awards, and nothing great. all that is good about me is my scores. and i am a mediocre person.
i could probably get into UNC OOS but not an ivy league..
i dont know, it seems weird

I got the letter today (12/22/05) but it is dated 12/14/05. My major is undecided at the moment, but I'm thinking either Business or something Medical.

yeah, there are a lot of people who got accepted who didn't get a "likely letter...I got in and i didn't get a letter (iam a soph at UNC)..so no worries. The likely letter is for the cream of the crop applicants. More than likely those who got in, will probably get into the Honors program too. (B/c my friends who got the likely letter 2 years ago were invited to the Honors program.

Wow thats great news! This makes me really excited :D

If you happen to get the honors program, are you automatically considered or do you have to apply specifically through that, and write an additional essay or anything?

Congrats to all who got a letter!! I'm sure you guys have made it ;).
