Hey guys,

I was wondering if applying for a Fee waiver affect admissions at these colleges:

UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Stanford, UPenn

Also does the collegeboard fee waiver work for all of them?

i was thinking about this as well…anyone?

The official answer is no. This also applies to requests for financial aid for “need blind” schools: Needing financial assistance in any form doesn’t impact how you’re evaluated. I’ve never believed this, but it’s the official position. If you look at kids accepted ED at top schools, there seems be a heavy slant towards kids who didn’t need aid at all. And why not? Schools need to make money, right?

No.

Applying ED also doesn’t impact the amount of financial aid you receive. The reason why kids accepted ED tend to be wealthier is because they weren’t worried about FA before applying ED. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to be wealthy in terms of college admissions, but colleges are always bragging about the percentage of low-income students they have.

what if i’m applying RD?is it going to be the same. Plus I’m an international. would it be different?

Well as a person who use fee waivers themself I would assume it can affect admission, unless the school is need-blind.

At the University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign all my meterial was recieved to make the ER deadline besides my fee waiver. I don’t know if it took my counselor long to submit the forum or simply took UIUC longer to process the forum. Though after seeing UIUC rejections and deferrels I don’t mind that I didn’t meet ER.
