Does financial aid pay for housing?

I was awarded $18,275 for my total financial aid at UCLA. Will part of this money pay for on-campus housing? The reason I ask is because there is an option "Housing payment plan: Financial aid" when submitting my housing payment and I want to be sure if I can check this option.

If the aid goes to tuition which is around 10k... how will i spend the 8k remaining of my aid? If I choose the financial aid option to pay for housing.. it won't cover the full costs. Will I have to choose a different option to pay for it?

Yes, choose the financial aid plan. How you come up with the rest of the money is up to you - the FA doesn’t pay off housing directly anyway.

Is there a problem if you are getting financial aid but you choose the quarterly option?

My friends are getting the same amount of aid as OP but they chose quarterly instead.

Don’t know why they would choose quarterly if they can get the Financial Aid plan. Sometimes FA disburses after the housing payment deadline. Only students under the FA plan will be exempt from the deadline in those situations. Don’t fall to peer pressure. They’re either stupid, or have a money source you don’t know about.
