Hello guys. I have 2 weeks left until I take the SATs and my question is; does Freerice.com actually help? should I study off it during these 2 weeks? if so, how often should I study?

Freerice.com helps feed people in developing countries who can’t afford rice–I’m assuming that’s what you meant :D

Seriously, though, I’m a staunch proponent of learning vocabulary by absorption (i.e. reading all kinds of books over a span of several years and naturally picking up on the meaning of difficult words from context). However, I also realize my approach isn’t always practical, especially if you’ve only got two weeks left.

I’ve found that the words on Freerice.com have been pretty obscure and unlikely to turn up on SAT tests. Study word roots; it helps a lot :)

Freerice won’t help you study for SATs. However, after a prolonged period of using it, you will be able to identify roots more efficiently.

No one actually memorizes Freerice words. It’s all for the word root practice.

And it does help people in developing countries which is nice :] The cute little bowl on the side of your screen that fills up with rice is cool too.

No, it really doesn’t help you study for the SAT. But I used to go on there anyway to feel like I was doing something productive and super meaningful whenever I don’t feel like reviewing for the SAT anymore.

Use Direct Hits

Google “1000 most common sat words sparknotes” and download the first hit. I memorized the general meaning (not definition, just association with concepts like good/bad, smell, etc.) of each word and got an 800 on critical reading and writing.

This won’t work for the average person.
