<p>I have heard that in tie-breaker cases the essays make a difference. Of course, this is rumor.</p>
<p>Tomato, take the time to write good essays. They can't hurt, they can only help. I don't know if they will get read, there have been articles written that because of the shear volume of applications the things like test scores, GPA, class rank and the plus minus rating have greater bearing and the admissions folks can't spend alot of time on each application.</p>
<p>I didn't think from the marks you gave that you were borderline.</p>
<p>Ray is right - this is not something you want to leave to chance. Do your best work.</p>
