Does graduating early affect accepted admissions decision?

Alright so I am a high school senior and I have already been accepted into the colleges that I want to attend. However, I was looking through my options and realized that I could graduate a semester early. I really want to do this so I’ll have more time to work, apply to more scholarships, and just overall better prepare myself financially for college. I would only be graduating a semester early; I finished the first semester today.

The courses I completed this last semester include:

  1. AP AB Calc
  2. AP Stats
  3. Communication Technology
  4. Eng 4 Honors
  5. AP Spanish
  6. AP World History
  7. On the Job Training

The reason I am asking this is because in my opinion graduating early, making more money, and travelling have a much larger benefit as opposed to just finishing up a second semester of each one of these tedious courses in school. So do you guys believe that my acceptance letters have a possibility of being rescinded if I choose to graduate early?

Talk to the colleges that you have been accepted to…see what they think.

What are you going to major in? if STEM, have you taken Bio, Phys and Chem and at least one of those at AP level?

Your college accepted you with the understanding that you will have completed the Sr schedule you reported when you applied. You will have to ask them if graduating early without completion of this coursework will disqualify you. Completing AP spanish may make you exempt from a language requirement, depending on your college. You can look that up. Other placements may be affected as well.

The best aid comes from colleges. If you can’t afford the ones you’ve been accepted to without leaving school to work full-time or you need to apply to outside scholarships (many of which are one time, very small awards) to help cover costs, your choices are probably unaffordable.

I see from your other thread that you plan to attend the University of Florida or Florida State University. You need to contact both to ask what their policy is on early graduation. But don’t leave unless you’re certain about your finances.

What’s the net cost (after grants but before loans are factored in)? You can only borrow ~$5500/year on your own, but I think FL has state grants if you’re a resident. Do you qualify for any? Are your parents able to contribute at all?

Hasn’t your last semester already started?

Graduating early takes some planning. My son did it. You need GC and school permissions/paperwork. They take time.

Yeah I called FSU and they just mentioned that it is highly recommended that I complete my last semester and that my decision could affect my admissions acceptance but apparently they weren’t able to tell me directly if my decision would change.

Bopper: I am either majoring in accounting/finance at FSU or UF but my other option is petroleum engineering at University of Texas if I get accepted there. I’ve taken AP Chem, AP Physics, and IB Biology

BrownParent: My plan was to graduate and then self study for the more useful AP exams so I could earn college credit. My county finance our AP exams.

austinmshauri: Tuition cost is not a problem since I already have scholarships to cover me for the next four years. I just want to earn more money so I don’t have to use my parent’s money. Basically I am just trying to get ahead of the game by preparing for the costs outside of tuition in college as well having some play money for when I start investing after I turn 18.

Erin’s dad: No, it begins on Wednesday.

I appreciate the responses. Thank you

For the schools you were already accepted at, ask to speak to someone who can give you a decision in writing if you are serious about this. There is no reason they cannot give you a confirmed response. Can you start the semester and then decide to graduate instead? It may impact schools you are still pending at.

I think saying that something is “highly recommended” is pretty direct. I’d stay in school.
