I took 13 units my freshmen fall. I am now in my freshmen spring and am taking 13 units as well.

I plan to apply to Haas next fall. Will it be a bad idea to stick to 13 units this fall? Do they take rigor into account? I will finish my pre-requisites on time due to transfer courses prior to coming to Cal.

I have other extracurricular commitments and want to keep my GPA up, hence the 13 units.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You’re fine in terms of units. Given that you’re ahead with your pre-reqs due to dual-enrollment, you may want to consider trying to get into Haas classes or class substitutes over your next few semesters. Although difficult, they’ll help show your interest in Haas and, depending on which ones you take, can count towards a back-up major (more specifically Econ). A few examples of classes that’d fit this category are Econ 100A, 100B, (both of which would help you declare and get started on the Econ major sooner if you’re considering that major) and UGBA 103 (counts as a Econ elective). You could also look into UGBA 102A if you’re interested in accounting/finance/banking, or another class that you think you’ll be able to get into despite having lower priority than people in Haas.

Thanks! I have one more question. I was creating a DARSweb Audit for Business Administration and they displayed this: Haas does not accept IGETC or exams to satisfy breadth.

Is this true? I cannot find anything on the website that indicates that transfer coursework cannot be used to satisfy breadth. It is satisfied in my L&S Audit.

As far as I know, Haas has always required breadth courses to be taken at Cal.

Does Haas accept any elective upper division courses from community college?

My understanding is that Haas accepts certain JC classes (as listed in assist.org) towards breadth, in the same manner as L & S. I’d probably check with a Haas adviser just to be sure. Haas definitely does not accept upper-division business electives from JCs, and I’m pretty sure they don’t accept upper-division non-business electives from JCs either.

Haas breadth requirements are here:
[Haas Breadth Guidelines, Undergraduate Programs, Berkeley-Haas](<a href=“Breadth Courses - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas”>Breadth Courses - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas)
Transferred in college courses (not AP/IB/A-level) may be used if they match up with the breadth requirement categories, but IGETC does not automatically fulfill the breadth requirement.

Community college courses are always considered to be lower division.
