Does Harvard care if you take Math I v Math II?

Im taking 2 SAT subjects this saturday, and I was originally going to take Math II and Lit. However, I am not confident enough on Math I to get 700+, but I just took a CB Practice test for Math I and got a 740 without ever studying.

Does Harvard care at all if i opt out of Math II and take Math I? I am certainly NOT a math person, and math will have no emphasis on my application.....

You should probably take at least another subject test in something else. A science perhaps? Having more than 3 tests could be a plus

if you're an engineering major, iic will definitely help, if not i think either one works

Is it important for economics?

Is it important for economics?

i dont think so... from what i read on college's website, usually math iic is recommended/required for any type of engineering majors and required for engineering SCHOOLS like mit and caltech. otherwise, when they say "math subject test recommended/required" either is fine i believe

II is easier if you've already taken precalc

It does not matter if you take Math IC or IIC. Take whichever one you feel you'll do well in.

Ooh by the way for maths, what does it mean when they put vertical lines around little equations? Someone was telling me it's something to do with keeping it positive.. can anyone explain it?

it's called absolute value...and yea, its positive, basically absolute values have no regard for the sign

ex: l-3l = 3

Could lx+2l = 0?

|x+2|=0 implies x+2=0 implies x=-2

A better question would be, "what about |x+y| < z"

-z < x+y< z implies -z-y< x < z -y

What's the best SAT II subject combo if I would like to apply to HYPMS?

Is it Math + Science + Humanities?

My problem is that I'm taking all science/maths subjects for my A-levels. I'm already having a tough time studying them, so I don't think I can handle a new subject. I did sit for O-level humanities papers though (History, Geography, a Foreign Language and Moral Studies).

I'm an international student. Would you recommend World History or US History?

unless you've studied (probably best using an american textbook i.e. - bailey's american pageant) us history as a class, i don't think self-studying is too effective using only sat II books for that.

World History

Grain: Choose any three that you know you'll do well in. It can be humanities, math, science - whatever.

if you own a TI-89...it helps alot on your Math II

Why are you taking the math test if you don't even know what absolute values are? No offense or anything

What else am I going to take?

It didn't come up in my exam today anyway nenenenene
