Looking at the stats page, I see that a fairly small percentage of people apply with the intention to study physical sciences, and even less apply intending to study computer science or mathematics.

I've already submitted for physical sciences, but in general does the choice of major have any effect on acceptance? I would think not, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Your intended major will help them to understand you better as an applicant but there’s no indication that certain intended majors have higher admissions rates than others. The idea is that most people change what their intended major is once, twice or twelve times so building a class around 12th grade whims isn’t very reliable.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t be surprised if an applicant who has a demonstrated, authentic interest (manifested in ECs, recs, awards, summers, etc) in something uncommon gets a second look, so to speak, but it isn’t the “intended major” field that makes the difference. Putting “slavic studies” out of nowhere will hurt more than it will help.
