Hello there everyone. I am very much interested in Harvard University's Physics department, it is wonderful. I am just in love with anything that was to do with Physics. I honestly love science in general. I am very much in love with their department, of course. However I have a different plan in mind that is not the traditional route that a high school student takes. I want to graduate early and then take a gap year studying science and doing research, I am really passionate about physics. However, I am aware that after that I would need more professional training and to learn more because it is Physics. Would this lower my chances at acceptance to Harvard College? Do they hate when students do this? Harvard is not the only school I want to go to. I am just wondering how this is viewed.

Harvard loves admitting child prodigy’s. BTW: You’ve got some stiff competition. Use Google and find more.

I know someone who graduated a year early and is about to start Harvard in the Fall (without a gap year), so it does happen, for what that’s worth.

@gibby, I am far from a child prodigy. My school district thought I was mentally ■■■■■■■■ at one point, I am not kidding you. But damn. Gotta love those prodigies.

Oh and thank you redpoint. That is worth a lot since it is very encouraging to hear.

Harvard doesn’t frown on early graduates but does not admit less than stellar applicants. Your problem isn’t your graduation date but the information you displayed here:

You have one year of HS under your belt and you were not outstanding. If you get straight As for the next three years, your odds are still tiny.

Basically, asking “does H likes early grads?” shouldn’t be your question. Your question should be "how do I turn around my Soph year so I can be more attractive to colleges? "

I just started browsing Harvard Chance Me threads and even the absolutely brilliant weren’t shoe-ins. I still want to pursue physics at a university that really emphasizes research within the subject and the sciences in general. However, it seems as though the universities that provide that are extremely selective or mostly the top schools. Do you have other suggestions besides for the making the grades ? Right now I am studying my subjects ahead of time so I can have time to start up my physics society and study for math olympiads/meets. Please help me, you are so wise and you know your ****, T26E4. I’ve seen your other posts and you are hilarious and insightful.
