does Harvard have a bottom line for SAT Reasoning?

hi guys
does harvard have any sort of bottom line for sat i?
if there is ,what's the minimum for CR and Writing?
thx~~

0.000000000000

Yeah, 200 is their bottom line. You need about 200 to be considered.

I’ll quote here two consistent statements I have heard from Harvard admission officers at public meetings. More than once, I have heard the figure offered that in general a score of 650 or higher on each section of the SAT is “competitive” for Harvard. I have also heard, more than once, and most recently on the campus of Harvard itself, that there is no MINIMUM score (and no minimum G.P.A.) for admission to Harvard. Harvard’s NCAA self-study

(thanks to CC participant PapaChicken for first sharing this link) makes clear that Harvard regards SAT scores for every applicant, but recognizes that some applicants bring to the table other amazing abilities that allow some flexibility in regarding test scores.

You can see the score profile of the enrolled freshman class at Harvard or at other colleges through the College Board website College QuickFinder tool.

Most students actually admitted to Harvard have high test scores. A few have other characteristics that add a lot to the Harvard community, and reasonably decent scores.

Practice well for your tests. Good luck in your applications.

Well to show you that it is flexible, I got a 640 in math but was just admitted. And I’m a middle Class white kid who doesn’t play sports anymore. So don’t hold yourself back because you have a low score.

thank you
i 'm taking it in june now i usually get 650~680 on reading(about 9~11 errors total) and 680~700 on writing(5 errors total and i suppose my essay is scored 8)
is that competitive?

My son just got into Harvard off the waitlist and his scores were under 700 on the SAT I’s. His SAT II’s were high, but I’m not sure how much weight they carry. I think being well rounded is very important. There were kids I’ve heard of this year that were numbers 1-5 in there HS classes of over 300 who were waitlisted, even rejected from schools that you would have thought they would get into. I saw the big problem as they really didn’t have any EC’s to mention. I don’t think it’s all about SAT’s, although it certainly helps to have them over 700, I don’t think it will break you if you don’t.

1) They just want to admit someone with low score to show that they are the ones who have power. Not you - a hardworking HS student. This is the time admission officers can feel good about themself.

2) As H admission said that they want “an around class”. That is right, they need people who will get Bs, Cs and Ds and be happy about it.

3) There were alot ppl got in with low scores without any EC’s. So EC is just BS.

4) Hard working professors and graduate students are the real power behind the success of the school so they can affort to use undergraduate admission to make political statements without any harm to the ranking.

Perhaps needless to say, I disagree with post # 8.

I must agree with Tokenadult, you sound a little bitter cc2.

lol @ cc2–was that…sarcastic?

What I can’t understand is how Harvard consistently reports middle 50 ranges of 700-800 if this is all true.

“they need people who will get Bs, Cs and Ds and be happy about it.”

Yes, I’m sure the fact that I scored a 640 on my math section of the SAT will translate into a Harvard career full of C’s and D’s. I’ll be sure to think back on this when I’m having a successful freshman year at Harvard next year. Because obviously SAT Math is the one and only indicator of how well someone is going to do in school.

Actually, I should not have put “D” in there. Haven’t seen anyone getting a D. Of cource, the world famous gettleman’s “C”.

i’ve never heard of anyone getting in with a section less than 600.

For the First Time in My Adult Lifetime, I Am Really Proud of My School Admission

I got in with less than 600

Hrm I wonder how competitive I am.
I have 800 crt. rdg and 640 math. I am also a minority student though. xP

that’s definitely a competitve score. my friend got into harvard, yale, princeton, columbia, cornell, and MIT with a 690 in reading and 800 in math. given however, she also produced a documentary on gays and lesbians and their lives in NYC.
