Does Harvey Mudd consider the ACT Writing section?

I'm currently a rising senior, and I took the ACT w/ Writing for the first time a couple of months ago and scored a 35 (W: 35; M: 36; R: 34; S: 35; W: 7). At the time, I asked about re-taking because my writing score was not up to par with my composite score. The overwhelming response was, "No, don't retake. Colleges don't look at the ACT Writing section."

However, I recently read a post on College Confidential that said Harvey Mudd considers the ACT Writing score in admissions decisions. Is this true, and, if so, will a 7 on the ACT Writing hurt my chances at Mudd? I'm better at writing non-timed essays, so my application essays should be strong, but I'm not sure that will make up for my ACT Writing score.

EDIT: Sorry if this sounds neurotic, but I'd prefer to err on the side of caution.

You can’t really tell from the Mudd website. They do ask for the ACT with writing (as do all colleges). It seems like if you do a good job with your essays and you have good grades in English classes, I wouldn’t think it would be a make or break item.

I’m sure they do consider it, but it just isn’t that big a part of their admissions process. They honestly look more at the essay as a sample of your writing (since they get direct access to the essay you wrote on the exam). It isn’t worth your time to retake it, because a writing score will not make of break an application. Colleges just use ACT Writing as just a way of getting to know their applicant’s writing skills.
