Hello everyone, I have a non contagious skin disease called Excema Dermatitis. It requires at least an hour of care everyday to keep it under control. My question is does having a disease help you on your admissions to college??

i dont know if that would help. it seems like only a more “dramatic” disease like cancer would help. but thats just imho. however, since it takes so much time to care for, i would maybe mention it on the additional information section. good luck.

You know college admissions is at a ridiculous low when people ask if having a disease will help gain admission to a college.

Well, people with diseases are not specifically in demand on college campuses, not in the same way that say star running backs are. So, no, you won’t be recruited or get a big admissions boost for having a disease. But you might be able to turn your condition into a worthy essay topic, not to generate sympathy but to demonstrate how you overcame adversity and how this all shaped who you are.

One thing to avoid is scaring the schools into thinking your disease will be a big health care burden on them, requiring lots of extra expense and accommodations on their part.

no, having excema, something that 50% of people have, will not help you.

and im pretty sure that people with non-contagious skin diseases are not in very high demand.

Damn right…

haha, i know it was a really lame question.
But do you guys think it can make a really good essay about how I overcame it and how it shaped who I am?

If you’re a good writer, I don’t see why not.

sure. ///

if youre depending on your skin disease to get you into college, id tread cautiously once youre actually in…
