Sorry, I'm just wondering if a study hall hurts your grades or whether it does not affect them. Thank you for your time.

nope.

You could take a class to help it out, but taking a study should not hurt your GPA. Think of it as free time.

thank you!! :D

It hurts your GPA if your school weighs your GPA and if you take a lot of honors/AP classes…like if you get extra weight for honors/AP classes but none for regular classes (which study hall is).

how is study hall a class?

In my school it is just a free block. Nothing goes on. You can just wander around. It does not count as a class at all.

But I guess each school is different

At my school it doesn’t affect your GPA either way.

More than likely it probably helps because:
A) It’s one less class to have to make a perfect 4.0 in.
B) It’s a period where you can spend time working on work for other classes (therefore getting better grades in those classes).

For me… I very much appreciate my two study halls this year and my grades have dramatically increased. I didn’t have a study hall junior or sophomore year and had much worse grades.

You guys get free hours during school?

Damn, i wish i got that.

oh, thanks everyone! your answers helped!! :)

In my school it is a rule that we get one and only one. Unless you are in a music program then you HAVE to take a free block.
lolz
it’s so stupid. Most of us hate it because it’s not enough time to get work done. It’s noisy and stuff.

You should really check with your guidance counselor or teachers at school.
Cause I know that at my school it’s different. There are different “study-hall-like” classes based on what you’re doing. If you need one because you’re doing bad in a class, it’s called Academic Enrichment and yes it could possibly hurt your GPA because it doesn’t get any added weighted GPA points; however, AP Seminar is another class like that, but it counts as an honors credit and it’s only if you have an AP class that semester. Free periods at our school are just that, and they don’t count against or for you.

my study hall period is actually an office aide period, but majority of the time i just sit and go online or do homework. it counts as no credit, so i only have six classes, and one is a regular weighted band class. so my gpa is impacted a little, five ib classes (5.0 scale) and band (4.0) which sucks a little, but i’m happy that i’ve had a free period right before lunch every day so i basically get two hours of homework time AT school.

i wish my school had a study hall! we only have six classes…apparently most other schools have 7 or 8…

Ask your counselor. It’s probably going to be different from school to school, so people at your own school are probably more reliable than people on CC. My school doesn’t even offer study hall.

ok, yeah i’ll ask my counselor…even though i hate her haha. thank you though :)
