Does hosting exchange students count as an EC?

<p>This might seem like a really dumb question, but I genuinely have no idea.
My family has been hosting exchange students regularly for around seven years. They usually come from Asian countries and are college students. I tutor them in English and I teach them about American culture, but none of this is recorded on paper. Does this count as an extracurricular?</p>

<p>*Another question which may be stupid: Does putting 2nd place on honors or awards make you look bad? Should you only put it down if you get first?</p>

<p>the first one is kinda like one of those programs where you pay to do volunteer work in africa or whatever. It’s interesting personally but not particularly significant for college applications. Unless you want to talk about it in the essay, which wouldn’t be a bad topic</p>
