I’m interested in becoming a doctor and someone told me that it doesn’t matter what school you go to as long as they have a strong pre-med program. My mother works at their hospital and with their benefits, I can go to Howard with free tuition if i get accepted. If my mom works at their hospital, do I have a higher chance of getting in?
Also, Howard doesn’t have public health as a major which kind of disappointed me because it’s a major I want to pursue, but I can adapt easily and I found that Howard offers a field of study in human development. Does Howard have a pre-med program? If so, can I take human development as my major and be a pre-med student at the same time?
@3licha From what I understand the Pre-med program is pretty intense so you may not be able to do both. I would actually talk to someone in the department to make sure. You may be able to do human development as a minor. Howard also has a Health Management Major and a Health and Human performance major that has a community health track. You may want to look into those. Also realize there are many people who get into medical school who are not pre-med majors. They come from a variety of backgrounds. So you may be able to major in what you want and then minor in biology for example to make sure you have the pre-requisites and do well in them. You never know. Being a doctor may still be on your radar after you graduate and it may not. There are so many opportunities.
