Does IGETC certification/being a local student matter?

I'm IGETC certified and my community college is 30 minutes from UCSD, but I'm really freaking out about my GPA (in other words, I'm expecting not to get in.) I couldn't do TAG because my counselor screwed me over with the course schedule I followed (long story.) So I was stuck applying as a general transfer student. I have a 3.07, Political Science and IGETC certified.

Any chance I strike gold here? I know that last year UCSD accepted down to a 3.0, but all the counselors I talked to said it was about 50/50 that I'll get in this year.

I applied to some backup schools just in case, which is looking like it's going to be where I end up at this point.

This wait is killing me.

As Chick Hearn would say, you have “two chances, slim and none, and slim just left the building.” UCSD has a good polsci program so ur grades just ain’t gonna cut it. but if ur right when u say people last yr got in with a 3.0 then i guess u have a chance

UCSD doesn’t admit by major, with the exception of a couple of their biological science programs. Last year, like I said, they admitted everyone down to a 3.0 GPA, regardless of the major (with those two exceptions.)

UCSD accepted ppl down to a 2.4, its just depends on you as an overall student and the person evaluating ur application

Really? From all the literature I’ve read it says they accepted everyone down to a 3.0, but that was the cutoff. That’s what I’ve heard from the counselors as well.

no i know ppl who have gotten in with like 2.8s, and im sure there are others that had lower, i mean cmon, ppl have gotten into berkeley with 2.5’s…look it up on statfinder, there are always exceptions

Well yeah, but I’m not Barack Obama’s nephew.

The minimum GPA requirement for transfers to be UC eligible is a 2.4 (in-state residents) and a 2.8 (out-of-state residents).

hopefully u wrote some good essays

Dude, UCSD doesn’t do comprehensive reviews.

IMO…you’re in at UCSD. They accept everyone down to a 3.0 (very few exceptions). Unless your PS’s were terrible and/or you have no EC’s, I’d say you’re golden…and yes at a university with a top 10 political science program - UCSD.

his essay’s won’t help at all. UCSD doesn’t even look at essays.

only UCLA, UCB, UCI, and Merced looks at essays

Thanks guys.

PS = personal statement I’m guessing, but what about EC?

there’s everything u need to know

Yeah I read through all that.

I’m just concerned that the GPA requirements will go up from last year.

GPA requirements won’t go up. UCSD accepts students with 3.0’s with TAG’s because they know that they need to fill up their transfer positions. I really think you have a good shot.

Even without TAG.

Thanks man! :)
