Does i's gots a shot for RD?

I was just deferred at Penn so yeah... Yale was my number two before i went into a deep state of depression... But on a more positive note, (or possibly not) what do you think my chances are at Yale?

GPA 4.5/3.9
Class Rank 2/300
SAT 1430/2090
SAT Physics 770
SAT Math II 740

Officer of two clubs
NHS
Varsity Golf
JV Tennis
Great choir program (Carnegie hall, sang national anthem for NBA team)
Some community service (50 hours?)

My teacher recs are good (just like everyone else's)
I haven't started my essay but I have time to make it great.

Thanks for the input and if you could possibly give me advice on what qualities they look for in an essay that would be great too.

I think you should definitely look at some other schools, sats low for Yale. They look for major hooks, ie: National Awards etc. (Did you sing National Anthem alone???) Sorry :(

Let me preface the following by noting that I am a current Yale student, unlike what "bulldog10" appears to be.

To be perfectly honest, your odds are okay. I would not say that you have no shot nor that you are a likely in. Your SATs are fine for Yale. Most students score between 2000 and 2300, so you're on the lower end of the average range but not too low. Your GPA, however, is very good.

Ultimately, Yale is looking for students that bring something individual and unique to the table. They don't necessarily want the "best and most amazing" students. Sure there are those types here. But more importantly is that everyone here has something unique about them. I would strongly advise you to look deep for that and to bring that out in your essay. Additionally, if you can have an interview with an alumni, definitely do that.

If you have any other questions, feel free to message me privately and I'll be happy to talk with you further.

No smyale12- you are wrong. Lets be realistic, its the uniqueness that Yale is looking for, That said, if getsome23 has something to offer Yale, which UPenn did not see then maybe a chance.

bulldog10, yes, i definitely am looking at some other schools and have already been accepted at Michigan so I have my back covered.

Smyale, thanks for the info ill probably PM in the future.

he didn't get denied.. just deferred.. so he technically still has a shot at penn

as for yale, i think your stats are fine; anything higher will definitely be better... but it's not unheard of for someone with a 2090 to get into yale... make yourself stick out of the applicant pool, something to catch the adcoms' eyes.

I applied SCEA and will find out my decision tonight. I can post my stats and my decision on here so you can compare me and you; it may give you an idea of your competition for RD (whether or not i get rejected, deferred, or accepted, it'll give you a rough estimate)

just an idea.. tell me what you think; do you think it'll help you?

yeah it definitely would. I have done most of my research on Penn and have already heard the "your SATs are too low" from everyone but from looking at who got in, SATs didn't seem to matter much as long as they were decent.

Peytoncline, GOOD LUCK! If you aren't in the mood to respond its ok i've been there.
