I'm about to apply for Caltech, my number one choice school.

However, in terms of academics and scores, I'd say I'm below average. But my brother has already been accepted. For Caltech admission does this help a lot like in other schools, or Caltech very ignorant of everything but stats and grades?

To the admission office, every quota is very expensive, I do not think having a sibling currently studying in CalTech would help a lot. On the other hand, I think consulting more about the application with your brother would be very important. The other advantage you might have is your personality. If you have similiar personality with your brother, I imagine you are pretty much on the right track.

hm, I dunno if (or how much) it helped, but my older brother went to Caltech about 8 years before I applied - when I was waitlisted, I wrote a letter to Caltech about how my brother had spurred my interest there in the first place, dropping a couple lines about his founding/restarting role in the undergraduate research journal there...and apparently, it didn't hurt, 'cos I got a call offering me admission within the first week of May. =)
