Hey guys i was wondering if it helps to send game film to the schools coaches that you are applying to and if athletic abilities can help with bad grades?

Please answer, trying to figure out what schools i want to apply to. Thanks in advance!!!

P.S. What are some new england schools have really good athletics and good academics?

Film should be no more than 3 mins. Best to send 5 best 10 to 12 second shots. Coaches are often teachers too so they don
t have time to see an entire game. You can email him/her some youtube shots or send DVD w/ shot cover letter. This is not for scouting purposes because I don
t think BS can really scout but it may get your name on his/her interest board. Best to do this before your interviews so that the coach can try to make time to see you during your school visit.

im applying to cushing, northfield mount hermon, blair(stretch), brooks, governors, the gunnery(maybe). dont think i have the grades for lawerenceville or deerfield even tho my dad played at lawerenceville. What schools are you applying to?

It definitely helps to contact the coaches in advance. And if you are a desireable athtlete who could make an immediate varsity impact, it can help with admissions.

Sending a tape will certainly help and is probably expected. (We did with my daughter.) Include significant games/performances/stats. It probably won’t help with bad grades, however. If they don’t think you can handle yourself in the classroom, you won’t get into the top schools. An exception might be made for a PG year if you’re a DI level athlete.

I play football too. I got wl last year, and didnt send tapes in because I was injured, but i am playing varsity starter for a top 20 california team this year. Overall, I think tapes do help, a buddy of mine got accepted to a bunch of good schools, and he was smart, but not a genius. He tells me its football so I hope your tapes work out.

Everything helps. Get your coach to write a rec. letter for you. You can also stress to the schools that a big reason why you
re considering BS is to have sports and academics under the same roof and you feel this will help you w/your time management which will improve your grades. It
s a very common dilemma w/HS athletes.
BTW, Blair won the cup back from Peddie. Go Blair!
