Does it help..

If you apply to a college in your High School that no one else applies to?

i don't think so (but i could be wrong). but some highly ranked schools send 10 grads to harvard each year (also, YPSMB etc.).

Depends how big your school is, but it may help a bit. Files are sorted by school. If you are the only applicant, adcoms can't gauge your school that well. It could go for you or against you.

It can help. Many colleges are eager to recruit students from high schools that they haven't yet had students from, especially if the student will also add geographic diversity. Yes, some high schools do have relationships with colleges, but there is no college in the country that fills its freshmen class just from those schools. Colleges want a diversity of experiences.

Adding on to what 1MX said, it depends on how big your school is and how big the school you're applying to is.

For example, I'm part of a VERY small graduating class (less than 40 of us will be graduating come may), so chances are that most of the schools that I'm applying to no one else will (even top 10-20 schools). However, I am also applying to typical schools that KNOW my school, as we send something around 5-10 (up to 30% of the class) to them each year, so it's a boost there if you have comparable stats.

Now, if you apply to some ridiculously huge out-of-state university (let's say a UC if you're not Cali), having someone else from your school apply can go both ways. If you are the stronger of the two (or three or whatever) applicants, it may help you. If you are the only person, you might get caught in the sea of 40,000+ applicants.

It all depends on your luck of the draw...

don't high schools send some info to colleges to help the admissions figure out how you rank in regards to everyone else?
it could go either way, if someone with lower stats than you applied too, you'd look better. some colleges don't have "quotas" from high schools.

Well my school is over 3K students, but it's not like an OMG incredible public school, and I'm like the top 1% from my class so hopefully being the only or one out of a few to apply will help me?
