Does it hurt applying both years?

My question is regarding applying as a transfer in both your freshman and sophmore year. Let's say I apply to Penn or Yale as a transfer this year, but am rejected. Will it hurt my chances of acceptance that I was rejected this year when I reapply next year? Am I better off waiting to accumulate better grades and achievements and applying in my sophmore year? Or is it worth it just to give the transfer process a shot and just apply this year...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just so you know most schools will reopen your old file, so I can only see applying multiple times as hurting you if you really screwed up some essays or something.

xXPhoenixFireXx, what you mean by really screwed up? I mean if you just didn't do a good job writing the essay (not in the sense that you wrote one of those essays that revealed you are a serial killer or anything) and reapplied that would hurt your chance?

If your grades, work, etc. greatly improved the second time you applied, then no. If you did less work than the first time you applied then yes. They want to see improvement. Most schools, however have a rule that you must wait atleast one year inbetween applications, so check your schools rules to be safe. It would look a lot worse if you applied too soon and then had to reapply for the correct time, and then sent in three applications.
