the admissions office hasnt received my recommendation letters and school reports which i have mailed on Oct.24th but i have been told by fedex that the package has been delivered on the 25th. yesterday i resent another package of application materials with an explanation letter that might be delivered tomorrow.but here i worry about my stats. since the AOs have started read applications.will they just ignore me or put my application aside because they havent seen these materials??? thanks for everyone and wish we all good luck!!

The late materials probably will delay your getting an interview since the interviews are based on the schedules of alum volunteers. Often there are relatively few volunteers, and lots of EA students to try to interview in a much shorter period of time than exists for regular applicants.

If your materials arrive too late for thorough consideration, you'll get deferred.
Realize that even if what you sent yesterday gets to the admissions office today, it will be in a large stack of mail that needs to be sorted and filed. That will take some time. Then, the admissions office would have to send your name, e-mail address, home address, etc. to your local committee of busy alum interviewers, many of whom work fulltime and have families, and the alums would have to find someone to interview you. All of that takes time, too.

They probably just haven't processed it yet- I went through the same thing.

So, if you sent in your application on November 1, you have a chance of being deferred because they won't have enough time to review your app?

Does anyone know if the admissions people read applications in the order they were received or if they read in some other order?

Northstarmom, how about the AOs who read my application? will they just not consider my application if they read it before my mailing materials arrive because they dont see a complete application? about the interview...I live in China and we dont have interviewers here in this region(at least from what harvard says), so the interviews for chinese students are selective.

Thank you

i had an interview with a harvard ao last summer and sent her a resume. she told me that she would set up a file for me, is it true? i mean, does the AO have time to do that? many of them are quite busy...

What about if my country doesn't have SAT testing centre?
Does it hurt my chances?
In website it says
"No Access to SAT or ACT Test Centers

Students who do not have access to a testing center in their country are the ONLY exceptions to the policy outline above. If you do not have access to a testing center, we will consider other internationally recognized credentials, such as the results of the Graduate Record Examination. Applicants must send the results of the GRE to the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, code 3451."
Is that true???

It's quite rare not to have a testing centre for the SAT in your country - the only country I can think of is the People's Republic of China. In any case, if you don't have a testing centre, then of course you're excepted from taking the SAT.
