Does it look bad (lazy?) on HS transcript to be a teacher's aide?

We're thinking about next year's schedule for our son, who will be a senior. By the end of this year (due to classes taken in 8th grade) he will have completed his 4 years of math and 4 years of science. By the end of this year he will have 7 AP classes under his belt: AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP Computer Science, AP Biology, AP US History, AP English (don't know which one) and AP Psychology. Next year he will be taking the other AP English, AP Statistics, AP Government (one semeter) and AP Economics (one semester). He still has to fit in one remaining semester of gym and will be taking two hours of choir classes.

That leaves him with two and a half classses to fill. The school offers Senior Release, but he won't be able to take advantage of that, because one of his beloved choirs meets last hour of the day. He has no Ivy league ambitions, and I think that 11 AP classes looks pretty darned rigorous.

There are limited Teachers Aide's positions available and I know he'd love to be an aide for one of the choir teachers (helping out with the less advanced choirs.) How does that look on a transcript? Like a lazy senior /easy A, or does it look fine?

I’d say he’d be fine.

…especially if he really loves choir, which it sounds like he does. Colleges like to see that you were really involved in something you were passionate about.

It should be fine, particularly since it fits with his interests. My D was a math/science kid and was an aide for AP Bio her senior year, she was accepted to some of the most selective schools.

I think it will help the rec letter from the choir teacher, who will be able to discuss your son both as a participant in the choir and as a leader helping others.
He has taken a rigorous schedule already…the GC rec letter will reflect that, too.
