Does it look bad that I don't take honors classes as a soph?

okay, so...
I go to a really hard private prep school. Freshman year I tested into algebra honors, but it was soooo hard for me that I didn't do well enough to get into geometry honors this year. The only honors classes available as a sophomore are honors chemistry (prereq was being really good at physics) and honors geometry (prereq was obviously being really good in algebra). I'm not in either. But on the other hand, I'm doing so well in school right now (4.2 w/o honors classes) that I think I can get into every honors class next year except for math. That means I'll have about four or five honors classes. I also think I can get into psych honors, which is an honors elective. My freshman year wasn't that good. I'm pretty sure my school doesn't offer APs.

9th gr gpa: 3.53
10 gr gpa: 4.1+ (if i keep doing as well as I'm doing now. I have a 4.28 at the moment, but exams might bog it down)

I have a couple questions:

If I have the chance, should I take the five honors classes?

Would it look good to take that many?

Do you think it would be way too hard to manage?

thanks in advance for your advice.

If your school doesn’t offer AP classes I would definitely try to take as many honors classes as possible. It wouldn’t look that good if you have few honors courses and no APs on your transcript. My courses through high school were

Freshman: 4 honors courses
Sophomore: 5 honors courses
Junior: 4 honors courses and 1 AP course
Senior 1 honors course and 4 AP courses

I would take as many honors courses as possible; managing 4-5 in a year is not too difficult at all. But then again, the only courses available at my school are Honors and AP, excluding certain arts/elective courses, so there was no choice in me taking that many.
