I'm planning on applying to a bunch of good schools that seem to have volunteering as an unofficial requirement. Since nobody really pushed me to do anything throughout my Freshman and Sophomore year, I haven't had any volunteering except for in the summer. Would colleges look down on it if I started volunteering now? Or does it not matter as much as I think it does?

They won’t view your volunteering as a bad thing, but they won’t be impressed. If you’ve been consistently involved in other activities, then it would be best to continue to focus on those.

It’s better to start volunteering now than not volunteering at all.

I agree with ipodsinger. It’s better to start volunteering now. You can’t change what you didn’t do in the past, but you can change the future! (Cheesy, I know, but it’s true)

"Or does it not matter as much as I think it does? " THIS.

Volunteer hours are a huge myth among HS students. Very very few colleges give a flip.
