I plan to take math II for a third time because I scored poorly (600 range) on the first 2 tests. I plan to study this summer and attempt to get 750+. But even if I work so hard for this, will it look bad? Especcially if I am applying to UCs, Georgetown, and Cornell...

dude! you and i have the same situation. i got 650 first time, 690 2nd time. i am planning on retaking for 750+ also. what wer your scores exactly?

I would say three times is the maximum for a subject test and the reasoning test.

There is no limit ... why would it look bad?? It shows how important it is to you to improve ... I think it is great...esp. if the score keeps getting better ... its a wow in my book. It also says more about you as a person if you take it three times to end up with a 760 than it does to take it once for an 800.

I'll take the hard earned 760 any day. Schools are not looking for just good test takers.

Uh, what school would actually prefer a 760 after 3 takes over an 800? I'm inclined to agree with agentunderfire38

Well, I know one thing for sure. I'd rather have an 800 after three takes than a 760 after one or two.

^I think you might actually be better served by the 760. While it might not hurt you, taking a test 3 times will certainly raise an eyebrow. especially for a subject test, which is an elective and a subject you supposedly shouldn't have to take 2+ times to score well on. My impression was always that once you hit 7__+ on most tests, and 750+ on harder ones, you were all set. I don't think admissions discriminates between 760/800. Maybe for a test like Chinese, for native speakers?

SAT Chinese is insane, a 800 is in the 61%ile

lol im plannin to do the same. cept for us hist and math 2 too
