I am studying at McGill for undergrad currently, with thought of going to McGill Med or a US Med School. I'm planning to take BIOL 202, genetics, a notoriously difficult course among students here over the summer so I can do better on it, but I have heard certain med schools do not approve of that. I do plan to take a full course load for all semesters though (I know McGill med doesn't like it when you reduce semester course load just for summer course), the main reason I'm taking it over the summer is because it's a prereq to many courses I want to take next year and I still want to have room for my Anthropology Minor.

Are there any med schools in the states (Rochester, Hopkins, etc) that doesn't accept summer science credits?

There are two questions here:

1) Does it look bad as in “am I gaming the system”? Well, if you are taking a summer course, it sure looks better to do it at your 4 year school than a CC.

2.) Possibly bigger question…is this the best way to spend your summer when you could be gaining clinical experience (or doing other app worthy things)?

Just one course? At your home uni? And you can still do some clinical exposure? I don’t think it would hurt much (if any at all). Just be ready to explain that it helped in scheduling upper level courses.

At my school, it’s pretty common for students to take the prereq course and the upper level course simultaneously if they were missing the prereq. Might this be possible at McGill? I imagine an academic advisor or the professors of the courses would know the answer. If you can take them simultaneously, you could take something totally unrelated to premed over the summer to clear space for the fall. (Bonus points if you can look at times/days of classes offered during the fall and can move one at a terrible time/day to the summer to give you some wiggle room during the fall.)

With these two statements, it seems as if you’re a little confused as to exactly why you’d choose to take a pre-req course over the summer. Have you spoken to an advisor about this?

If you absolutely neet to. Ohterwise, just enjoy your summer, spend time with friends, your chances at that will greatly diminish once you are in Med. School. D. did not take a single summer class, except for the one that was free for all Honors students. She claimed her NZ trip and got 6 credits that she absolutely did not need, she had very relaxed senior year for the lack of classes to take. All her Bio were notoriously very hard and the first one was very well known weed out killer. If you stick to only 2 difficult classes per semester with the balance o easy classes, you should be fine.
