Does it look bad to colleges if you take the SAT a lot of times? Like I took it last year in 8th grade and am taking it this summer--will it look as if I'm just doing it over and over until I "master" the test?

Why are you taking it so early? Man wait till your junior year :P

They don't count the one in 8th grade....so you are starting fresh in high school, my D took it in 7th grade for a schlolarship application...so don't worry

And yes, they don't like it too much, 3 times is pretty much the max

Wait until your junior year unless you feel you have a darn good shot at the score you want colleges to see.

omg they had that thing when i was in 7th grade where they asked me and these kids to take the SAT for sum Princeton or sumthing scholarship. Wish i had done that, so lazy back in the day

Colleges like three times. That and they also like it if you take the ACT as well as the SAT I with some SAT II.

If I took the old SAT last year for CTY Johns Hopkins, will that count as taking it?

Now I'm really upset. I took the old SAT last year in 8th grade, and have already registered for this summer (after 9th grade). That's already 2 attempts! I'm really depressed... :(

^ You're getting depressed just because you think you won't appel well to colleges which is still 4 years away? Wow...that's really sad.

And no, I frankly think its good that you're taking it for practice, as I did so myself. But there are some people that might disagree against it. Don't worry about it, they won't look down on you, and I don't even think the ones in 8th grade and such count as an "attempt"

I also have the same question, do the colleges count the old SAT as an attempt? I took the one a week ago and that's my third try if you count the old one I took in January. I'm planning on taking it again in October, but if it's goign to officially be my fourth try (if the old one is counted), I might not do it.

(bumping the question...)

If I took the old SAT last year for CTY Johns Hopkins, will that count as taking it?

Zachsta, why are you taking the SAT so early? For practice or are you confident that you will get a score you're satisfied with? If I were you, I would wait till junior year. Or at least sophmore year. Use the summer to study if you want. There's no rush, you have plenty of time. And if you think you would do better in another year (I don't know if you do), why take it now? If anything, you can take the PSATs for practice.

Zachasta: No, taking the SAT with Johns Hopkins CTY does not count as "taking it".
